Merton: Mystic and Prophet

Explore and discover the mystical journey of Thomas Merton. Concentrating on his final years and focusing on his assimilation of Eastern spiritual practice within his own Christian and monastic roots, we will use his last writings in The Asian Journal as a text from which to contemplate his message. Class will be held in The Merton Center on the Bellarmine University campus. Required text: The Asian Journal, by Thomas Merton.

Instructor: Richard Sisto began reading Merton in 1964, when the impetus of the spiritual revolution of that time encouraged an open and exhaustive study of mystical writings. He met with Merton on several occasions and corresponded with him in letters.
