Jorge Mester leads the Orchestra in the first full series of Classics concerts for the 75th season along with special guest soloist and former LO interim principal cellist, Peter McCaffrey.
Antonin Dvorak completed his sketch for the opening of his seventh symphony in just five days and wrote to a friend, "I am now busy with this symphony for London, and wherever I go I can think of nothing else. God grant that this Czech music will move the world!"
The Seventh has become a staple of the symphonic repertoire and is joined on this program with Saint-Saens' immortal concerto for cello and orchestra, a tour de force for the instrument, utilizing the complete range and requiring incredible dexterity from the soloist.
