In February, LFL will present a newly devised piece based on Jane Joyce's Beyond the Blue Mountains, a book of poetry inspired by pioneer womens' journals, which tells the story of a fictional Boyle County family who move west on the Oregon Trail in 1852. The poems are in the voices of the four family members and a widow they encounter en route after she has lost her husband in a Native American Indian attack. Their voices bring to life, vividly, not only the other people in the wagon train, but also the terrain and weather. Directed by Kathi E.B. Ellis, the production will take place at The Rudyard Kipling, 422 West Oak Street, Louisville, KY. Performance dates are February 23, 24, 25, March 1, 2, 3 at 7:30 and March 3rd at 2:00.
LFL will also be offering a wide variety of Community Outreach this season; everything from theatre and acting basics to curriculum-based drama workshops to conflict resolution through drama. They will offer after schools at Wilder Elementary and Hawthorne Elementary, as well as residencies in schools, Summer Drama Camps, their Teen Theatre Institute, and continue their Faith Stories Project work in Guatemala. LFL continues on the touring rosters of the Kentucky Arts Council, the Kentucky Center for the Arts, Alternate ROOTS and the Southern Arts Federation. Many of the company members are also part of the Kentucky Arts Council's Teaching Artist Directory.
