New York—based artist Ryan McGinness grew up in Virginia Beach, VA, and studied at Carnegie Mellon University as an Andrew Carnegie Scholar. While a student, he worked as a curatorial assistant at the Andy Warhol museum in Pittsburgh. McGinness creates paintings, sculpture, and environments marked by his distinctive use of the visual language of public signage, commercial logos, and contemporary iconography. Interested in the perceived value of forms, McGinness employs the power of the anonymous aesthetic in order to communicate personal expressions.
