The aging King Lear divides his kingdom between his three daughters based on their professions of love for him. The youngest, his favorite, refuses to flatter him and is banished. The true regard of the elder daughters is soon revealed and Lear descends into madness, but only then does he truly discover his humanity. Tragedy comes to all in Shakespeare's powerful drama of fathers and children, sibling rivalry, and the wheel of fate.
