Kentucky Homefront Radio Broadcasts are recorded live at the Clifton Center in two, 0ne-hour productions.
The first broadcast features a trio of young ladies, Julia Purcell, Cheyenne Marie Mize and Joan Shelley, collectively known as Maiden Radio, whose individual and group talents will fill the 1st hour with only Colonel Bob appearing amongst the ladies with another of his Front Porch gems. Maiden Radio shares their rich harmonies and constantly changing instrument arrangements bringing to life songs that range from Appalachia's best kept secrets to those from Country's classic favorites like Hank Williams and The Carter Family. In May 2010, the ladies recorded their first record, the self-titled Maiden Radio. Later that year they made their second album,Lullabies, for Julia's soon-to-be-born baby Maya Adele and subsequently released it on Daniel Martin Moore's Ol Kentuck Records. The ladies are currently planning their third album to be expected early 2013.
The second broadcast showcases one of the hottest young guys to come along in a while, Daniel Martin Moore, who brings along Silas House, Marianne Worthington and, from Maiden Radio, Joan Shelley to join him on the Front Porch for what promises to be a unique and memorable experience. Daniel Martin Moore & Joan Shelley are both singers, songwriters & bandleaders living in Kentucky. Farthest Field is their new duo-project out on Ol Kentuck Recordings, and Joan calls it "an album that lives entirely in a day-dream." Silas House is a New York Times Best-Selling novelist and serves as the Director of the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center at Berea College and on the fiction faculty at Spalding University’s MFA in Creative Writing program. He is also a music journalist, environmental activist and columnist. Marianne Worthington is a poet living in Williamsburg, KY. She is co-founder and poetry editor of the online literary journal Still: The Journal and poetry editor for Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine. She is editor of the Motif anthology series from MotesBooks and the 2010 recipient of the James Baker Hall Memorial Prize in Poetry sponsored by New Southerner magazine. Her poetry chapbook is Larger Bodies Than Mine (Finishing Line Press, 2006). She is associate professor of Communication and Journalism at University of the Cumberlands, and a creative writing instructor for the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts.
