Second Broadcast Hour (9:00 pm):

Will Owen Gage Trio
Saturday’s show features blues and country artists and opens with Will Callery from Owensboro. He’s travelled far and wide including Austin and Nashville, and now he’s back in Kentucky to reconnect with his roots. In 1975 he received word that his song “Hands on the Wheel” had been recorded by Willie Nelson for his double platinum Red Headed Stranger. He’s accompanied by Will Owen Gage on guitar and vocals.
Next up is award-winning singer/song writer Johnny Berry with the Outliers. Johnny’s classic country voice is supported by guitar-slinging Steve Cooley, Chris Douglas on bass and Gene Wickliffe on Drums. Col. Bob Thompson fills the mid-show spot with another of his 3-minute tales gleaned from life’s threshing floor.
Mark “Big Poppa” Stampley opens the second hour with his inimitable blues style which he calls "Cariblujazz.” Nominated this year for the Louisville Music Awards, he’s just hittin’ his stride as a regional favorite. His current CD Here Come “Big Poppa” Stampley offers a refreshing sampling of blues and folk.
“Big Poppa’s” set segues to the Kentucky edition of the Will Owen Gage Trio. Will has spent the past decade refining his chops as a star-quality guitarist, vocalist and writer. His CD “Travelin’ Man,” released in 2013, has garnered many enthusiastic fans. He’s joined by Tim Krekel’s stellar rhythm machine of drummer Mike Alger and bassist Mike Williams.
Don’t forget to tune in to the Kentucky Homefront broadcast heard on WFPK 91.9 FM at 8 am on Saturday mornings and on Crescent Hill Radio on the internet at 6 pm Saturdays.
