With one year left of college, JESSE LACY entered the corporate world as a paid marketing intern, where just two weeks of being there motivated him to get serious about creating and managing his own music career. The idea of music was not a random epiphany by any means: Lacy had been "goofin' around" with music since his parents allowed him to dent-up their pots and pans soon after learning to walk.
Even so, he didn't get serious about playing music until his senior year of high school.
One year after his internship and with his BA in English and a Minor in Music from Indiana University firmly in hand, he began work on a professional album, something he'd wanted to for a 'bazillion years". A 'Jiminy Cricket' like album that released this past May, First Steps explores nostalgia and hopeful appreciation for the present and future from the perspective of a father figure guiding his son into adulthood. "I am an older brother and have always felt like a partial-dad most of my life. Although these songs are not about my siblings directly, many of the songs have been mantras I have used to combat struggles and guide my own life. It is in this mindset of knowledge-sharing that I continue to write and perform music."
