The Clifton Center is pleased to present a concert by jazz singer Jane Monheit as part of the MINI of Louisville LIVE at the Clifton Center Concert Series on Friday, January 27th at 8:00pm. A cash bar will be available in the Clifton Center Lounge beginning at 7:30pm. Tickets are $33-$35 and are available at Carmichael’s Bookstore, 2720 Frankfort Avenue, or online at www.cliftoncenter.org. Varanese, 2106 Frankfort Avenue, is offering ticket holders a special dinner package that includes a 3-course Prix-Fixe menu for $45 per couple. Patrons need to be seated by 6:00pm in order to allow enough time to make the show, and reservations are suggested.
Two years after being a finalist in the prestigious Thelonius Monk Vocal Competition, critically acclaimed vocalist Jane Monheit rocketed to the top of the jazz world with the release of her best-selling debut album, Never Never Land, in 2000, earning the young singer from New York such lavish praise as “Jane Monheit can’t miss. She has, in a word, everything” (Time). Inspired by such legendary singers as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae and Barbra Striesand, Monheit sings jazz standards and classics from the Great American Songbook, yet her crystalline voice and velvet-smooth phrasing defy easy categorization, straddling the line between jazz and cabaret with ease and sophistication on such chart-topping albums as Come Dream with Me, Taking A Chance on Love and Surrender. A two-time Grammy nominee, Monheit is a natural performer with abundant charm and an accessible approach that have won her accolades from across the musical spectrum.
