In the reign of George the first of England , fighting with fists had begun to take the place of the combats with sword. It was more than a spectator sport, there was betting, and the gently born as well as the commoner were known to participate. Bare knuckle fighting involves two individuals fighting without any gloves.
The difference between a street fight and a bare-knuckle boxing match is an accepted set of rules, such as not striking a downed opponent. At our October 9th meeting Art Bilodeau of Indiana University Southeast will speak on the culture and color of bare knuckle fighting.
Afternoon Tea served after the program. Anyone interested in learning more about Jane Austen and her world is encouraged to attend.
