Rare is a recording artist who can rap and sing catchy, slice-of-life paeans, but South Florida’s charismatic rap-singer Jake Miller can do both with unmatched skill and aplomb. Since bursting onto the hip-hop scene three years ago as an opening act for Snoop Dogg, this 21 year-old native of Weston, Fl., has landed several hits (A Million Lives, Collide, Like Me), as well as a pair of Top-5 rap CDs, A Road Less Traveled and Us Against Them. Miller’s latest hook-laden single, First Flight Home, is taken from his forthcoming Warner Bros debut album.
Meaghan Trainor was plying her songwriting trade in Nashville as an up-and-coming country tunesmith till earlier this year when the 20 year-old singer/songwriter from Nantucket, Mass., authored All About That Bass, a ‘60s-style pop/doo-wop ditty about female posteriors and positive body image that has gone viral. Last week, Billboard magazine and The New York Times have waxed warmly about this bouncy breakout hit, which is scooting rapidly up Billboard’s radio charts.
Jacob Latimore will turn 18 on Sunday, but the Milwaukee-born singer/rapper already has put out a winning batch of singles, mixtapes and CDs, while appearing in six films and three TV shows. Latimore’s upcoming film The Maze Runner is due out in September. Meantime, Latimore recently-released Heartbreak Heard Around The World, a chugging, mid-tempo duet single with T-Pain that will be included on his next CD.
