The Clifton Center, in partnership with Kentucky Refugee Ministries and the Iroquois Branch of the Louisville Public Library, will present "Into the Garden: A Festival of Iraqi Culture, Featuring Rahim AlHaj," a weeklong series of events that begin on Monday, October 6. The celebration will highlight the art and culture of Iraq, culminating with a concert at 8pm on Friday, October 10 by two-time Grammy nominee Rahim AlHaj, who is considered by many to be among the greatest virtuoso oud musicians and composers in the world.
An introduction to the movements of Kawleeya including hairwork, head shimmies, and floorwork. Arabic dance encompasses many different styles under one umbrella but this workshop will focus on a form of dance from Iraq and what makes it unique. Usually a form of entertainment, this beautiful style is often mixed with Raks Sharqi (or Belly Dance) and is delightful and vibrant. Come to class then to community gathering! All levels welcome, including beginners.
