Following the economic crisis of 2008, the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs of the World Council of Churches declared that the greed that motivated the economic collapse is a violence that is perpetrated against those who are poor. It encouraged churches to learn from other religious communities, and to work together with them to engage what they deemed the enduring spiritual crisis of our time. How do we do this? Is this a theologically proper method? How do we address the challenges that inevitably arise in a way that is consistent with scripture and tradition? This lecture will address these questions and offer a way forward.
This program is presented as part of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary’s Edwards-Presler Lectures on Peace, Justice and Mission in partnership with the Center for Interfaith Relations Festival of Faiths 2013 Fall Forums.
