GonzoFest returns this March with six days of events. This year the GonzoFest crew is taking the festival to the next level by collaborating with The Gonzo Foundation, a non-profit organization created to promote literature, journalism and political activism through the legacy of Hunter S. Thompson. The Gonzo Foundation includes notable names such as Anita Thompson, Ralph Steadman, Johnny Depp, and Sean Penn. Proceeds from GonzoFest 2014 will benefit The Gonzo Foundation.
Music, art, poetry, and spoken word performances will take place each night by national, regional, and local performers at various local venues, including: Carmichael's Bookstore, The Green Building, Haymarket Whiskey Bar, The New Vintage Showcase, OPEN Gallery, St. Charles Exchange, The Monkey Wrench (official GonzoFest after-party headquarters) and many more venues to be added.
Anita Thompson will deliver the festival’s keynote address and Frank Messina and David Amram will present a panel discussion on Hunter. Additionally, the United States premier of the new Ralph Steadman documentary, narrated by Johnny Depp, For No Good Reason, will be shown on Friday, April 4. The festival will close on Saturday, April 5 with a large outdoor celebration featuring live music, art, food and drink, craft booths and the unveiling of the original portrait banner by artist, Ralph Steadman.
GonzoFest 2014 will also feature an art and literary contest specifically aimed at high school and college artists and writers. Art pieces will be displayed at the various events throughout the six days of the festival. To enter the GonzoFest 2014 art and literary contest, email npgaring@mac.com. All literary contest submissions are due by Thursday, March 20. The deadline to submit artwork is Tuesday, March 25.
