The InKY Reading Series sets the pace for an exciting 2012 season this Friday, January 13, at The Bard's Town (1801 Bardstown Road), featuring Lousville sons Brett Eugene Ralph and Norman "Buzz" Minnick. Ralph's Kentucky Chrome Revue will get the venue hopping with a performance to open the evening. As always this event is FREE to the community, so come out and get a kick out of literature live!
Brett Eugene Ralph grew up in the south end of Louisville, playing football and singing in punk rock bands. His work has appeared in publications such as Conduit, Mudfish, Willow Springs, and The American Poetry Review, and his poems have been anthologized in The McSweeney's Book of Poets Picking Poets and The Stiffest of the Corpse: An Exquisite Corpse Reader. His first full-length collection, Black Sabbatical, was the Linda Bruckheimer Series in Kentucky Literature selection for 2009 and published by Sarabande Books.
Norman "Buzz" Minnick is a poet and playwright. He grew up in Louisville's Crescent Hill neighborhood. He is the author of To Taste the Water: Poems (Mid-List Press, 2007) and several chapbook collections including Two for the Cold, a collaborative work with Lawrence Atwood, (Broadside Books, 2000) and The Overreacher (Broadside Books, 1998). He is the editor of Between Water and Song: New Poets for the Twenty-First Century
Kentucky Chrome Revue is a revolving cast of country gunslingers and rock & roll desperadoes who animate the songs of poet Brett Eugene Ralph with the spunk and sparkle of 70s outlaw country and classic rock, along with enough punk rock attitude for the band to accurately refer to itself as “the MC5 of country music.” The band’s self-titled debut is available from Noise Pollution and features contributions from Will Oldham, Jolie Holland, Freakwater’s Catherine Irwin, and members of Silver Jews, Sebadoh, Royal Trux, and A Perfect Circle.
