The University of Louisville Hite Art Institute in conjunction with the 2011 Louisville Photo Biennial is pleased to announce an exhibition of photographic work by UofL Professor Mitch Eckert at the Cressman Center for Visual Arts.  The Photo Biennial represents a cooperative effort among local museums, galleries, universities and other public venues to give viewers the opportunity to learn about and to appreciate photography, spanning its history to the present, and from the local to the global.  Dialogue/Object will open to the public on Friday September 30.  A reception will take place during the First Friday Trolley Hop October 7 from 6:00-9:00pm.

Dialogue/Object surveys 15 years of Mitch Eckert’s photographic work exploring the theme of Still Life.  Eckert has used film and digital negatives, traditional and toy cameras, flatbed scanners and iPhones at various moments in his career, all as means of dialoguing with objects, some of which he has assembled and arranged, others of which he has found and captured. Eckert's color prints and alternative process photographs play upon the tradition of Still Life and the beauty of the everyday object.

Eckert received his B.F.A. from Indiana University, Herron School of Art and his M.F.A. from Ohio University.  He is now an Associate Professor of Art for the University of Louisville Hite Art Institute.  The exhibition will run through Saturday, October 29, 2011.
