Finnigan Productions presents its fifth annual festival of new 10-minute plays by local playwrights, Finnigan’s Festival of Funky Fresh Fun, running April 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 7:30pm at The Bard’s Town Theatre, located at 1801 Bardstown Road. Finnigan’s Festival of Funky Fresh Fun is the second production in Finnigan’s eighth season in Louisville.
Finnigan’s Festival of Funky Fresh Fun is a celebration of local theatre artists in the disciplines of playwriting, acting and directing, with scripts from eleven local writers, directed by eleven local directors and performed by fifteen local actors. The plays were selected by a committee of theatre artists who regularly contribute to Finnigan shows.
Finnigan’s Festival of Funky Fresh Fun’s plays include: A coffee shop fantasy set to music in Playlist by Kate Barry. A bank robbery split three ways in Stick-up by Zachary Burrell. The heiress to a chocolate fortune and an ex-hockey star find themselves in an awkward predicament in The Chocolate Girl by David Clark. Memories are hard things to throw away in Toast by Tad Chitwood. Need someone who listens? Need someone who cares? Just call the On Call Empathy Team by Sarah East. Aristophanes’ love life gets some revisions in Greek Tragedy by Andy Epstein. Things are not what they seem, or maybe they are in Mitch Field’s Life is But a Dream. Digging up dead bodies isn’t always easy, but Nick and Corey still try and have a good time in Nick and Corey Grave Rob by Nick Potter and Corey Music. Show tune sing-a-longs are the least of these ladies’ problems in Women Who Love Gay Men by Brian Walker. The mystery of the dead hamster has so many possibilities in Death Hamster! by Bryce Woodard.
Directing credits for Finnigan’s Festival of Funky Fresh Fun are being shared by several local directors, including winner of last year’s festival favorite award Tad Chitwood, Looking for Lilith’s Kathi E. B. Ellis, long-time Finnigan company members and first time directors Shaun Kenney and Joseph Hatfield, third time returning festival director (and winner of 2009’s festival favorite award) Becky LeCron, Todd Zeigler from The Alley Theatre and Louisville Repertory Theatre, second time returning directors and regular contributing artists Jeremy Sapp and Briana Clemerson, playwrights Corey Music and Nick Potter and Finnigan’s Brian Walker.
Finnigan’s Festival of Funky Fresh Fun is being produced by Louisville native and artistic director of Finnigan Productions, Brian Walker and longtime collaborator Kelly Kapp. Walker’s previous writing/producing credits include The Time I was Kidnapped by the Church, Smoke This Play, Great American Sex Play, my daddy’s name is Big Oil, Shot me Down, dirty sexy derby play and Mama didn’t raise no ZOMBIE!. Kapp has been a member of Finnigan’s acting company since its first season and serves as drama director at Mercy Academy.
Finnigan’s Festival of Funky Fresh Fun’s cast includes local talents Abby Braun, Meg Caudill, Elizabeth Cox, Craig Nolan Highley, Kelly Kapp, Jordan Kelch, Becky LeCron, Corey Long, Joey Pate, Kimberly Peterson, Michael Roberts, Tiffany Taylor, Jenn Starr Tennant, Brian Walker and Eric Welch.
