Because of flooding, the Kentucky Derby Festival is moving the location for the preliminary rounds of the hole-in-one golf contest.
The event is being moved to the Seneca Golf Course driving range at 2300 Pee Wee Reese Road beginning Monday at 10 a.m.The event will be held at Seneca’s driving range through Sunday. Hours through Saturday will be 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., with 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. hours on Sunday.
The Seneca location will have a Michelob Ultra 19th Hole refreshment tent that will be open daily.
2011 marks the 22nd year for this event that has quickly become one of the "anchor" events of the Derby Festival.
Over 60,000 shots were taken last year to qualify for a chance to advance to the final round and the MILLION.
Again this year, there will be 53 available Finalist positions for the final round. The 2011 Finals are on May 1st at Hole # 8 at Seneca Golf Course.
We keep trying to give the money away! After 21 years, the $1 million prize is still up for grabs in the finals of the Fifth Third Bank $1 Millon Dollar Hole-In-One Golf Contest.
Anyone from beginners to scratch golfers can take a shot. There are great prizes just for qualifying and if no one gets the million, they can still walk away with a terrific First Prize.
This year's challenge begins Thursday, April 21, 2011 and runs thru Sunday, May 1.
The Hole-In-One is open daily. (See above for scheduled times.) Each golf ball is only $1. Get 5 FREE golf balls with the purchase of a $5 Pegasus Pin at the event. You may also find a coupon inside your Pegasus Pin envelope for "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" for a bucket of balls.
How it works: Each day, ten people will qualify to advance to the Semi-Finals held at the Water Tower, Sunday, May 1st, at 6 PM. All Hole-In-One qualifiers will go directly to the Finals at Seneca Golf Course, Hole #8 on Tuesday, May 3rd.
All others who qualified, will advance to the Semi-Finals and will be given 3 shots to try to proceed on to the Finals. (Those who will proceed to the Finals are those hitting closest to the hole, filling the remaining spaces of the 53 total Finalist positions.)
AGAIN IN 2011 All hole-in-ones during preliminaries will receive $53. In addition, Metro United Way is the new charitable partner of the event. All participants who donate $5 to Metro United Way when they purchase their golf balls will receive $153 if they get a Hole-In-0ne (on the day of their donation).
There will be 53 positions available at the Finals, so there is a lot of opportunity. (Hold that thought: you don't get the million unless a hole-in-one is made in the actual Finals...but not bad for a day's work.) If there is not a hole-in-one at finals, the closest to the hole will receive $5,300.
The water tower shot is 100 yards for everyone. The finals shot is 153 yards for men and 135 yards for women.
Relax in the 19th Hole Refreshments Tent!
A special "country club" atmosphere with lounge couches, prime viewing of the tee boxes, a large screen TV, a full bar, and cocktail appetizer menu. Have a drink with your pals and relax after hitting a few holes.
