"There is honesty in everything Joel Timothy sings. Broken Cage is a country and pop gem; a crossover masterpiece." ~Tim Roberts, Louisville Music News
JOEL TIMOTHY, a first-rate talent with a gift for crafting songs that touch the heart, stir the soul, and sometimes even make the listener laugh out loud, has been writing, performing and producing music for more than 35 years. Born in Nebraska, Joel grew up across the pond in England, returned to the States by way of Northern California and by the mid-1960s, as a teenager responding to the inexorable call of music, found himself settled in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco - one of the hottest music scenes in the world. Here, with neighbors and friends like Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, John Lee Hooker and many other artists from the era, Joel learned from some of music’s most powerfully talented mentors.
In the '70s, Joel quickly “graduated” from street singer status to popular artist on the West Coast folk circuit, expanding his territory by touring throughout the U.S. After many years on the road, Joel returned to San Francisco and began composing music for film, television, radio and theatre where his clients included Disney, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, and GE. During this time he married artist Karen Boone. A son, Ian, soon followed and the family moved to Karen’s hometown of Louisville, KY. Once again, Joel began performing throughout the region, including many appearances at Nashville’s legendary Bluebird Cafe. His albums Broken Cage and Fly Away With My Heart received strong reviews and generous airplay on NPR affiliates, including Louisville’s WFPK Radio. Along with writing and recording his own music, Joel keeps busy as a producer for independent artists.
