...It's during our age of plastic throw away culture and thirty second attention spans that we yearn for something deep and real. We need it like we need water to drink or air to breath. This is truly the value of roots music to our particular time and place, and it explains in so many ways the recently emerging popularity of roots rock and blues. Some may strive for technical perfection, others for fame and fortune, but no matter what the motivation, music from the soul makes the connection true. It brings us together, and funks us all up to the rhythm of life. Such is the plight of THE DOWNTOWN COUNTY BAND, some real life rockin' Americana from the hinterlands of the Commonwealth. Hailing from the rolling hills of Owenton, KY, this group of young men are reinventing the traditional jug band sound with a style both new and unique. A shared appreciation for roots music, delta blues, and old-time/new-time country and rock has enlivened their original sound, allowing them to breathe new life into a classic bluegrass arrangement. Much of the band’s inspiration and creative energy is drawn from the jug band tradition of the 1920s and '30s, a tradition born on the banks of the Ohio River, renewed years apart by musicians walking the same Louisville mile. In March of 2012 the band recorded their highly anticipated second studio album That a Way, released on August 30th, adding 10 excellent new originals to their growing catalogue and making the rounds ever since. DCB returns to the Unc for some barn-stormin' of the funnest degree - come on out and share the love!
