The Saturday Academy Sistah Summit dinner* keynote speaker is Donna Britt.
Every 'over-giving' woman has a story. In many ways, award-winning journalist Donna Britt's began with her brother's death, which caused her to unconsciously begin seeking to save other men the way she couldn't save him. Countless Black women behave similarly, allowing their unconscious fears for their "endangered" lovers, husbands, brothers, sons, fathers and friends to lead them to support, protect and prop up brothers even when they suspect they shouldn't. "In a nation in which Black men die younger and more often than any other group of men," Britt writes in Brothers (and me), "Black women fear for the brothers in their lives, and for themselves at the prospect of losing them.
All women can identify with Britt's story of 'over-giving.'
