Doc Crow’s Southern Smokehouse & Raw Bar, 127 W. Main St., has tapped their latest exclusive craft beer created in collaboration with Louisville-based Apocalypse Brew Works. Whiskey Chaser Lager, a pre-Prohibition style classic American pilsner, was brewed to be the perfect complement to refresh the palate while drinking whiskey. Doc Crow’s bar manager Jacquelyn Zykan approached Apocalypse head brewer Leah Dienes to take the creative reigns concocting the subtle and sweet beer with bourbon-lovers in mind.

“We love to support this local business, not just because they are local but because they have a passionate team dedicated to making great beer,” said Zykan. “It’s an added bonus to pair with another knowledgeable and passionate woman making waves in the male-dominated spirits industry.”

Whiskey Chaser Lager has a clean lager taste, moderate maltiness and a faint corn-like sweetness with a crisp finish. Dienes used a combination of two-row and six-row barley with flaked corn, rice, German Hallertau hops and Cluster hops to give the beer a nice mix of earthy and citrus qualities. Based on a pre-Prohibition era American pilsner, Whiskey Chaser Lager utilizes the oldest variety of American hops for a slightly bitter and fuller bodied lager.

Zykan previously created a custom smoked porter aged in private selection bourbon barrels called Bull Nelson with Dienes and Apocalypse Brew Works.
