At the end of the 19th century, members of Louisville’s upper class began to move away from the crowded and noisy downtown area. Families made their home in the hills surrounding Cherokee Park and along the Ohio River. They partnered with renowned architects to create grand estates and beautiful gardens.
Country Houses of Louisville, 1889-1939 reveals for the first time the interiors and exteriors of these magnificent homes and gardens. These homes spring to life with vibrant photography, featuring many never-before-published contemporary and archival photographs, accompanied by perceptive text. Whether you are drawn to photography, period homes, or genealogy, County Houses of Louisville has something for everyone.
