"Cosi Fan Tutte"
Libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte
World premiere: Vienna, Court Theater, January 26, 1790
Mike Ramach, director of “Cosi fan tutte” and co-director of the opera theatre, said the opera is one of only three works where Mozart collaborated with Lorenzo Da Ponte, who wrote the libretto, and is considered a “gold standard” of great opera.
“This comical masterpiece combines beautiful music with a classic story of young love and its vulnerabilities,” Ramach said. “The opera features a clever plot that was bracingly, politically incorrect, even in Mozart’s day.
“Deep down, ‘Cosi fan tutte’ provides a sharp reminder of how often the true depth of our feelings is sadly contradicted by clumsy statements and predictable actions.” Ramach said. “Our most cherished relationships can often be fragile and tenuous.”
