The Switzerland County Visitors Center in Vevay, IN, will feature a cookbook display and free recipes during the Fête de l’Escalade March First Friday event. Historic family cookbooks from the Switzerland County Historical Society’s collection will also be exhibited.
Presented by Switzerland County Tourism, the event takes place on Friday, March 1, from 6-9pm at the Visitors Center located at 128 West Main Street in downtown Vevay. The event is free and open to the public. Cookbooks will remain on display through the month of March.
Individual recipes will be available at no charge, with copies of the Historical Society’s 80 page Tasty Treasures cookbook offered for $9 each. The book contains historic Switzerland County family recipes passed down through generations, including dishes from family reunions, school functions, birthdays and more. Tasty Treasures is also available at the Switzerland County Museum’s gift shop located at 210 East Market Street in Vevay. Open daily from noon-4pm, there are no admission fees.
The cookbook focus coincides with a series of Vevay Main Street First Friday event themes that pay homage to the 2013 Vevay-Switzerland County Bicentennial celebration. Fête de l’Escalade—the act of scaling defensive walls—is an annual festival held in Geneva, Switzerland, celebrating the defeat of the surprise attack by troops sent by Charles Emmanuel I, the Duke of Savoy, in December 1602.
First Friday participants are also invited to the Community Art Center at 217 Ferry Street to sample a variety of soup contest entries prepared by individuals, businesses, and organizations.
