At the monthly Pilgrimage/Town Hall meeting, local photographer Donald Vish is named as the first Compassion Laureate. Donald is regionally recognized for the reflective, compassionate quality of his images. The Pilgrimage/Town Hall Meeting will be at the Clifton Center, 2117 Payne Street.
What is a Compassion Laureate? Someone who embodies the practice of compassion in some area of study or endeavor. The Compassion Laureate accepts this recognition and, where appropriate, shares their gifts with the community.
Donald Vish is a lawyer, photographer and teacher. He is of counsel to the Middleton Reutlinger law firm, Executive Director and Board Member of the J & L Foundation, and a freelance photographer for Louisville.com. His intent is to use his photography to benefit non-profit organizations. For five years Donald taught photography to at-risk inner city children at St. George’s Community Center in Louisville. He was the official photographer for the Drepung Gomang Institute during the Dalai Lama’s 2013 visit to Louisville. His photography featuring nature pictures with power to heal taken over four seasons in Louisville parks is now being installed in Norton Hospitals.
The mission of Compassionate Louisville is to champion and nurture the growth of compassion by asking “What does compassion want for Louisville?” The vision of Compassion Louisville is a community and world becoming more and more compassionate.
