On September 19-22 Louisville Classical Academy, the Berry Center, Fons Vitae, and daring participants of all ages present a community reading of Homer's ILIAD at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft. Using the Robert Fagles modern translation, we will start with Book I on Wednesday and end with Book XXIV on Saturday afternoon.
Individuals and groups sign up for time slots ranging from 10 to 60 minutes. Each reader will be assigned a passage from the poem and a number that represents his or her order in the reading. The audience will fluctuate throughout the day, as visitors to the museum, as well as readers and their friends, come and go throughout the day.
The ILIAD reading is one component of a multi-week exhibit on Storytelling at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft. Our reading will take place on a stage within the museum specifically designed for the exhibit. Seating will be available.
There is no charge for participating in the reading of the ILIAD, though donations in support community programs such as this and the classical studies curriculum at Louisville Classical Academy are greatly appreciated.
