Civil War living historians will be encamped on the historic downtown square. Walk through the camps to experience the life of a Civil War soldier and civilian during the War. The re-enactors will provide demonstrations in infantry, artillery, nurses, cooks, laundresses, sharp shooters, and surgeons. Civil War field embalming by Dr. Benjamin Lyford of Washington City, DC is certain to be a unique experience for visitors. The encampment is free and open to the public. Friday is an educational day for schools, but public are welcome. Firing of weapons and the cannon will occur on Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
While visiting the square, be sure to take a tour of Indiana's First State Capitol, built in 1816 and the Governor Hendricks' Headquarters, built 1817.
