On Sunday, August 18th at 4 PM, Carmichael's will mark the fifth anniversary of the death of Palestinian poet and activist Mahmoud Darwish with a celebration of his life and work. Darwish won numerous awards for his literary output and was regarded as the Palestinian national poet. In his work, Palestine became a metaphor for the loss of Eden, birth and resurrection, and the anguish of dispossession and exile. Local poets Sonja de Vries, Merle Lyn Bachman, Larry Muhammad and Aletha Fields will read some of Darwish's most memorable poems. We hope you'll be able to join us for this very special event.
