Carmichael's Bookstore, Louisville's oldest independent bookstore, is pleased to announce the grand opening of Carmichael’s Kids, a new store with books, toys, games and more —- exclusively for children. The store is located at 1313 Bardstown Road, next to Discoveries and The Bristol Bar and Grille, and just across a bank parking lot from Carmichael’s on Bardstown Road at Longest Avenue.
To celebrate the opening, Carmichael’s will host a Block Party on Sunday, August 10th from 1 to 4 PM. The portion of Longest Avenue between Bardstown Road and the alley will be closed to traffic from noon to 5 PM that day for the Grand Opening Celebration/Block Party.
There will be games, activities and special treats for youngsters including performances by actors from Stage One, sing-alongs with musicians, face painting, a parade led by the Little Golden Books character The Pokey Little Puppy, live birds of prey (hawks and owls) from Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky, ice cream from the Comfy Cow and much more. The event is free and open to the public and booklovers of all ages.
Carmichael’s Kids will be open for business the week of August 4th and will be open seven days a week throughout the year. It will host weekly story times, special events, and visiting authors, including an event with best-selling adult and children’s author Carl Hiaasen on September 30th (details to be announced soon).
