Virginia Trimble, PhD, UC-Irvine, will talk about the lasting impact of two key discoveries a century ago on our view of the universe. One led to a Nobel Prize for Niels Bohr. This interplay between physics, chemistry and astronomy began a revolution which is still felt today. Trimble has spent a lifetime in astronomy researching supernovae, pulsars and cosmology; reviewing thousands of research papers; and helping to lead astronomers as vice president of the International Astronomical Union. Free and open to the public.
