The Korean War Ex-POW Association will hold its 39th annual reunion at the Brown Hotel July 27 to Aug. 3. Veterans, along with spouses, surviving widows and other family members, gather once a year to commemorate their service to our country and honor those who were lost during the war. This year’s reunion will be sponsored in part by the Korean American Community. The Korean Consulate General will be in attendance to present the Medal of Peace and Ambassador Award to the Ex-POWs. The Kentucky governor Steve Beshear has also been invited to attend the event. For more information on the Korean Ex-POW Association, visit koreanwarexpow.org/.
The Korean War Ex-POW Association was founded in 1976 by Bill Norwood, the current president who was a prisoner of war from 1951 to 1953. Over the past 39 years, the association has convened in 26 different cities across the nation, revisiting 13 cities. This year, Norwood expects 350 guests to attend. Due to the age and health of the veterans, this year’s reunion will be the last.
“The friendships that were formed all those years ago will last a lifetime,” says Norwood. “It’s been a good ride and now it’s time to reflect on the memories.”
