Come join us for a weekend of history like you’ve never seen!
Centuries ago, America was not the land of the free… It was a land of colonies, full of people trying to make a new life for themselves on a new continent. European aristocracy saw the New World as a source for raw materials to increase their wealth and a place to dump people who were poor, rebellious, criminal, or otherwise “undesirable”…
During the 17th century, petty criminals were transported to New World colonies as punishment for their crimes. They were expected to work off their crimes and stay in the New World to help build an economic empire for the rich Europeans. As the colonies became more civilized, those who did not wish to “reform” pushed deeper into the West.
By the 18th century, North America was full of riff-raff including River Pirates, Highwaymen, Rogue Natives, Indentured Servants, Impoverished Settlers, Foreign Rebels, Swindlers, Thieves, Smugglers, Grave Robbers, and other sorts of miscreants.
This living history event is a window into that sordid world where certain death, either at the muzzle of a Highwayman’s pistol, or at the end of a noose, lurked around every corner. Brigand’s Grove is a hideout for unsavory characters, so come see how they lived, fought, and lied at our newest living history event at Historic Tunnel Mill!
Reenactors will demonstrate cannons and historical weaponry throughout the day. Battles each day at 11:00AM and 2:00PM. The 200-year-old Historic John Work House, which is currently undergoing restoration, will be open for tours both days. Hours for this event are 10:00AM to 5:00PM. $5 parking fee gets you in to the event and the historic house. Attend Saturday and come back for half-price on Sunday!
