A powerful story of love, revenge and sibling rivalry, BOOTY OF THE YEAR involves two sisters who are professional wrestlers, Nasty Girl and Miss Longcar. They are jealous of each other’s careers and in love with the same man, ring announcer Honey Boy. Their boss, fight manager Big Man, is conducting a promotional search for America’s most fabulous derriere – Booty of the Year – recruiting cheerleaders and lingerie models. But scheming for a bigger payday he manipulates the sisters into fighting for the title in a grudge match. Does love between the sisters prevail or have they turned into the heartless divas they portray in the ring?
A family values drama set behind the scenes in professional wrestling, and a chilling glimpse into the consequences of gun violence, BOOTY OF THE YEAR was developed in the Playwriting Intensive Program of Sarah Lawrence College in New York and received a reading at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in downtown Cincinnati. The show is an hour long.
Cisco Montgomery’s other plays include BOOMERANG, MURDER THE DEVIL, and THE MAGNIFICENT STEPHEN, which received a reading at the National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, NC.
Director Phillip Cherry is also the well-known actor and teacher who logged more than 20 productions at Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, among them title roles in OTHELLO and MACBETH.
