Experience the Ballparks of America, past and present, through Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory's Summer exhibit Ballparks: From Classic Cathedrals to Concrete Donuts. The exhibit features the works of renowned photographer and sports enthusiast, Jim Dow, capturing the mystique and romance of our National Pastime’s playing fields.
In a fashion unique to Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, the stunning stadium portraits are teamed with rare artifacts from the featured ballparks and the players who made history there.
Several items featured in the exhibit are from the National Baseball Hall of Fame, marking the first time the museum has displayed items from Cooperstown.
The exhibit is highlighted by a rare, game-used Roger Maris baseball bat. Maris used the bat during the 1961 season when he hit a record 61 home runs and broke Babe Ruth’s single-season record.
Other baseball history on display with the photographs include an original stadium seat from Detroit’s Tiger Stadium, as well as a seat from Chicago’s Comiskey Park. Also included in the exhibit are authentic pennants dating back 60 years from the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals.
The exhibit features 26 images, photographed in the early 1980s, of major American and Canadian stadiums and is accompanied by informative text panels with historical stadium facts and memorable athletic accomplishments. By using multiple color images taken with a camera that utilized 8x10 inches negatives, Dow was able to create a highly-detailed panorama that offers an unusual view of the ballparks as seen from a fan’s point of view.
The exhibit is organized by the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University in Niagara, New York.
