On Saturday, March 1st at 4 PM (at our Frankfort Ave store), Carmichael's welcomes Appalachian poet Jim Webb for a reading from his new collection of poetry "Get In, Jesus." Webb has been an instrumental member of the Southern Appalachian Writers Cooperative since its founding in 1974 and his work has appeared widely in the region’s literary journals. Webb remains an outspoken advocate for environmental and social justice through his writings, radio program, and actions. After his family home was burned in an arson fire in 1992 and his next home was torched in 1995 (the third of four fires), Webb purchased the property that is now Wiley’s Last Resort in Whitesburg, KY where he hosts campers, hikers, artists, activists, concerts, college and community groups. The title poem in this collection, "Get in, Jesus," is considered by many to be the most iconic Appalachian poem of our time. We hope you'll be able to join us!
