Every year since 1981 enthusiasts from across the globe gather in "The Horse Capital of the World" the first week in June to experience The Pyramid Society’s annual Egyptian Event – well known as the world’s largest showcase of the Egyptian Arabian Horse. This year’s Event, taking place June 3rd – 7th at the Kentucky Horse Park, is free to attend for KY Horse Park visitors, and offers a variety of compelling activities for every age – all in celebration of the legendary Egyptian Arabian horse!
This year’s Event entitled “Gleannloch Farms: The Legend and the Legacy” pays tribute to Douglas B and Margaret Cullen Marshall of Gleannloch Farms and their legendary contributions as breeders of Straight Egyptian Arabian horses. More than 200 items from the Marshalls’ estate, and consisting of original Orientalist paintings, one-of-a-kind items and collectibles from around the world, will be featured in two live auctions during the Event. The first will be held on Friday, June 6th at 9:00 a.m. in the Fasig-Tipton Dining Room and is open to the public. The second, scheduled on Friday evening, June 6th at the Embassy Suites as part of the Society’s gala, is a ticketed event. The Event offers Egyptian Arabian breeders and owners unique and diverse opportunities to showcase their horses in both halter and performance classes. With payouts exceeding $200,000 annually, the Event attracts many of the world’s most prestigious Egyptian Arabians to the show ring. In addition to the show itself, visitors are treated to an array of high-end shopping options, including unique jewelry, fashion accessories, custom halters, tack, cutting-edge horse health products, and one-of-a-kind fine artwork.
The Event also hosts expert-led complimentary educational seminars and clinics, with this year’s topics to cover "Novice Rider/Novice Horse", presented by acclaimed horsewoman, Virginia Godwin of North Carolina; and "The Foaling Review", presented by Dr. Jeremy Whitman, DVM., with Equine Medical Associates PSC in Lexington, Kentucky. Both seminars are sponsored by Markel Equine Insurance.
Socials, youth programs for ages 6-17,including an excursion to the Explorium of Lexington to visit the new Saddles Up! Exhibit, barn parties, book signings and live Straight Egyptian stallion breedings, followed by the Championships on Saturday evening, help round out this year’s agenda.
