On the American Cancer Society’s 100th birthday eve, May 21, 2013, the organization is hosting a community-wide “Every Candle Has a Name” luminaria ceremony on the Big Four Walking Bridge as a visual reminder of the importance in taking action in the fight against cancer. The “Every Candle Has a Name” luminaria ceremony will honor, remember and celebrate the lives that have been touched by cancer through the lighting of up to 5,000 bags lining the Big Four Walking Bridge and its ramp. For a minimum $10 donation, community members can dedicate a luminaria bag in honor or in memory of someone touched by cancer. The American Cancer Society will be celebrating its birthday from 7-9 p.m. at the Big Four Walking Bridge with the luminaria ceremony to begin at 9 p.m. All community members are invited to attend. To learn more and to order a luminaria bag, call the American Cancer Society at 584-6783 or visit lightupbigfour.org.
