American Cancer Society’s 18th Annual Evening of Hope Gala, August 17, 2013
Join the American Cancer Society as it celebrates its 100th birthday at the 18th annual Evening of Hope Gala, which will take place August 17, 2013 at the Galt House Hotel in Downtown Louisville. This festive event, chaired by Brent Smith, is appropriately themed “Birthday Bash”, allowing guests to take part in the Society’s celebration and contribute in helping make this cancer’s last century.
The Evening of Hope Gala is one of Louisville’s premier events, with more than 250 expected attendees representing corporate sponsors and the community’s business and philanthropic leaders. The event, sponsored by Amgen, Norton Cancer Institute and KentuckyOne Health, will begin at 6 p.m. with a pre-event reception including open bar, hors d’oeurves, and silent auction. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. followed by a spectacular live auction featuring several items including a framed autographed Winner’s Circle photo and horseshoes from 2013 Kentucky Derby Winner Orb. The evening’s live entertainment will be by The Louisville Crashers. Dress is black-tie optional.
Several awards will be presented at this year’s gala including the Physician of the Year, Marilyn Lesher Spirit of Hope Award and the Visionary Award. These awards recognize individuals in the community who continuously make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and support the American Cancer Society’s mission in the fight against cancer.
• Subhash P. Sheth, MD, of Jewish Cancer Care, a part of KentuckyOne Health, will be presented with the Physician of the Year award for his outstanding service to cancer patients throughout his career.
• Mary Kost, avid American Cancer Society volunteer, will receive the Marilyn Lesher Spirit of Hope Award for her dedication to the cause through volunteering with Relay For Life and ACS CAN.
• Robert N. Shaw of Norton Cancer Institute will be presented with the Visionary Award for his strategic vision to fight cancer and serve the needs of cancer patients in our community.
The gala is open to the public, but reservations are required. Tickets are $250 per person or $2,500 per table, and include the cocktail reception, dinner, entertainment and After Party. For individuals just wishing to only take part in dancing and drinks, After Party tickets are $50 per person. Funds raised at the Evening of Hope Gala supports the American Cancer Society’s mission to create a world with less cancer and a world with more birthdays by helping people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back against cancer.
