For a unique Memorial Day weekend outing, join us on Saturday, May 24th, noon to 5 p.m. in Old Louisville as the doors of beautiful homes throughout this historic neighborhood are opened for personal guided tours. The homes are some of the many featured in David Domine’s gorgeous coffee table book, Old Louisville: Exuberant, Elegant and Alive, which he produced with photographers Franklin and Esther Schmidt.
All proceeds from this tour will go to help kick-start the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum’s two-year preservation capital campaign. In the spirit of our “walking” tour the museum will also be collaborating with WaterStep to set up shoe collection points throughout the tour. By donating your new and gently used shoes to WaterStep, you’ll help fund safe drinking water projects all over the world.
Homeowners in Old Louisville are both stewards and storytellers for their homes and the incredible architectural details are only part of the story. Home tour participants will get the “inside story” from residents, their family and friends and a chance to ask the questions: What is it like to live in Old Louisville? Is your house haunted? Did any famous people live here? What are your renovation and preservation secrets? Is that chandelier original?
Celebrate with us the exuberance and spirit of the Old Louisville and experience the grandeur and elegance of our beloved neighborhood.
Tickets are $20 each in advance or $25 day of and can be purchased at the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum or online at http://www.conrad-caldwell.org. This is a leisurely walking tour; visitors can tour at their own pace between the hours of noon and 5pm after checking in at the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum. David Domine will be present at the Conrad-Caldwell House as well as signing his books and refreshments will be available for purchase.
Adding to the historic feel of the tour, Kentucky Wheelmen representatives will be riding around on High Wheel Riders meeting and greeting the public throughout the tour.
Visitors attending the homes tour can park in West End Baptist Church parking lot on 4th and Magnolia Ave.
