Desmond Shawe-Taylor, Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures
“Through the Eyes of the Royals: The Queen’s Pictures from
Henry VIII to Elizabeth II”

Desmond Shawe-Taylor was the former Director of Dulwich Picture Gallery until 2005 when he was appointed Surveyor of The Queen’s Pictures. He has written extensively on English 18th-century portraiture and more recently curated exhibitions at The Queen’s Galleries in Edinburgh and London, including Bruegel to Rubens; The Conversation Piece: Scenes of Fashionable Life; Dutch Landscapes; and most recently, The First Georgians, devoted to the reigns of George I and George II and planned to celebrate the tercentenary of the arrival of the Hanoverian dynasty in 1714.
