Get set for the first weekend in October when Churchill Downs turns over its reigns from horses to horsepower for the 2011 Louisville Concours d’Elegance, Sunday, October 2, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A series of warm-up events will jumpstart the main event including The Heaven Hill Back Roads of The Bluegrass Driving Tour, The Concours Eve Gala, and a chance to win an expenses paid trip to see comedian Jay Leno’s magnificent car collection.

JAMES BOND VEHICLES
For the first time, the most spectacular display and competition of rare and historic cars in town will be joined by a cast of original vehicles from the most riveting chase scenes in movie history. As Secret Agent 007 might say to introduce the collection, “The name is Bond….James Bond.”
The classic vehicles are part of the world’s largest collection from James Bond movies, owned by the Ian Fleming Foundation outside of Chicago. Heading south on I-65 for the 2011 Louisville Concours d’Elegance will be:
- “Q” boat and Flying Parahawk from The World Is Not Enough (1999)
- Tow-Sled from Thunderball (1965)
- Aston Martin V8 from The Living Daylights (1987)
- Jaguar from Die Another Day (2002)
- Model Jet Star airplane from Goldfinger (1964)
Thanks to the generosity of car collector Harry Yeaggy, a Cincinnati banker and a fan of the Louisville Concours d’Elegance, the 1964 Aston Martin DBS driven by actor Sean Connery in the James Bond movies Goldfinger and Thunderball, is also scheduled to be on hand for the event. Yeaggy placed the winning $4.6 million bid for this classic car at a London auction in 2010.
ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF INDY
For race cars lovers, there will be a special display of cars that have competed over a century in the Indianapolis 500. The confirmed classics go back as early as 1916 with the Duesenberg driven by Wilbur d’Alene and a 1935 Miller Boyle Special driven by Bill Cummings. 20th Century competitors include the Sunoco Eagle-Turbo Offy driven Mark Donohue, the defending champion in 1973 and the 1983 STP Wildcat-Cosworth driven by Gordon Johncock.
WORLD WAR II MILITARY VEHICLES
For the first time, the Louisville Concours d’Elegance is honored to bring visitors a special display of vehicles used by both the Allies and Axis nations during World War II. These include two 1940s Dodge WC54 ambulances, a 1944 Willys Jeep, a 1943 Ford GPW Jeep, a 1938 BMW R71 Bide and Side Car and a pair of Volkswagens -- a Kubel and a Schwimmwagen.
CONCOURS d’ELEGANCE COMPETITION
Car collectors throughout the United States will compete for the coveted “Best in Show” crystal trophy, showcasing their one-of-a-kind automobiles for observation and judgment. This will be the fourth annual Louisville Concours d’Elegance, bringing back Chief Judge John Carlson and a prominent panel of class judges from around the U.S. and Canada to decide which of these spectacular cars shows above the rest.
The Grand Marshal of the 2011 Louisville Concours D’Elegance will be Charley Moyer, automotive editor for Chronos magazine. The Master of Ceremonies will be Ed Lucas who has brought colorful commentary to Concours events and antique car shows for more than 20 years.
CONCOURS FASHION SHOW
Featuring the latest fall fashions from Louisville retailers, the Concours Fashion Show models will be chauffer driven to the stage in vintage Concours vehicles. The fashion extravaganza will also feature the creations of renowned Derby hat designer, Louisville’s own, Sheila Nobles and her CK Nobles Millinery Designs.
CONCOURS KIDS & CARS
For young car fans, the Concours Kids Tent will be filled all day with fun activities including a Combustion Engines Through Time demonstration, Decorate A Race Car, Decorate A Car Cookie (and eat it too!) and Painting With Cars.
And back by popular kids demand at the Louisville Concours d’Elegance will be a locally owned collection of antique fire trucks, which youngsters find fascinating. These fire trucks are also the perfect backdrop for family photos opps.

This year’s Concours weekend begins with The Bluegrass Driving Tour to Heaven Hill Distilleries Road Rally on Saturday October 1. Participants will spend the morning rolling through Kentucky’s beautiful bluegrass on their way to historic Bardstown and the Heaven Hill Distilleries. Heaven Hill will serve a catered lunch and conduct private tours of one of Kentucky’s premier bourbon sites. The cost is $125.00 per car, including the driver and navigator, and $50.00 for each additional passenger. Participants must arrive by at 8:15 a.m. to register at Southeast Christian Church parking lot on Blankenbaker Parkway and I-64.
