In the basement of the UofL William F. Ekstrom Library, some extra special treasures are tucked away.
They include:
* a 1632 copy of Galileo's "Dialogo di Galileo Galilei Linceo";
* the original charter for Louisville, signed by Thomas Jefferson in 1780;
* "GOAT: Greatest of All Time: A Tribute to Muhammad Ali," a 75-pound volume that is bound in Louis Vuitton leather and includes two inflatable art pieces by American artist Jeff Koons;
* a signed copy of Albert Einstein's "Theory of Relativity";
* rare first editions of works by Copernicus and Isaac Newton (with annotations made by the author);
* the world's largest institutional collection of works by the creator of "Tarzan";
* a leaf of the Gutenberg Bible;
* and many other notable texts and photos.
And for this event, UofL Archives & Special Collections will get some of their best treasures out for a small group of Yelpers to see and -- gasp! -- even touch in some circumstances.
Along with this trip through literary and photographic history, a special reception with food and drink will be provided. More details on that soon.
