Preservation enthusiasts, DIY home fixer-uppers and historic home owners are invited to participate in a three-part series on window restoration led by Gary Kleier and Holli Nance.
For all classes students will need to provide their own safety glasses and gloves for handling glass. If you do not have glasses, you can only watch from a distance. Regular eye glasses are acceptable unless they are very narrow. Wear work clothes. If you have a sash you want to work on, please feel free to bring it, but be reasonable with the size. Other than glasses and gloves, all materials and tools will be provided.
Windows 101: This class will introduce the basics of repairing a window including; freeing a stuck sash; removing sash from the window frame; removing glass from the sash; measuring for replacement glass; installing glass; re-roping a window sash; how and where to use sash springs; and reinstalling the sash. Lead paint issues will also be discussed as well as useful tools.. We will be working with heat guns, so if you have one, it would be good to bring it with you. We will also be using wide blade putty knives and narrow blade putty knives (5 in 1 tools work great in place of a narrow blade putty knife). Bring your own if you have them. The more we have the faster each student will be able to participate in the hands on activities.
Class space is limited, 10 participants. Payment is required in advance.
