Time to gear up for Kentucky Derby season! Gallery at the Brown will host an opening reception for the horse-themed “View from the Grandstand” art show Friday, March 24 from 6 to 9 p.m., featuring artists Jaime Corum, Melanie Osborne, Donna Bernstein and Thomas Allen Pauly. Light appetizers and wine will be served at the event. The show will close June 16.

Local equine artist Jaime Corum draws inspiration from her own experience with horses, including the one she owns, Chesapeake. Versatile in her approach, Corum specializes in thoroughbred racing, dressage, show jumping and eventing, and uses oils to bring her visions to life.

Melanie Osborne’s love for horses stems from her childhood in Ashland. Raised on a farm, she was surrounded by horses, a factor which ultimately led her to a career in art. Osbourne started her talent with pet portraits and now paints equine murals.

Donna Berstein’s equestrian paintings reflect her early interest of the form and anatomy of horses. Using a simple style with no brushes or tools, Bernstein constructs classic designs that combine intimate elements with a modern structure. She says, “It’s not the horses that I paint; I paint how they make me feel.”

Recognized internationally, award-winning equine artist Thomas Allen Pauly uses watercolors and oils to create portraits depicting the energy and celebration of achievement in horseracing. A world traveler, Pauly has produced paintings for numerous national and international competitions, including Royal Ascot, Dubai World Cup, Belmont and the Kentucky Derby.
Gallery at The Brown features local artists to bring awareness to Kentucky’s visual arts scene. Located on the first floor of the hotel, Gallery at the Brown is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
