Maria Koetter, Louisville Metro Director of Sustainability will present the results of Louisville’s Urban Heat Management Study on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at 6:00pm in the Louisville Central Community Center, 1300 W Muhammad Ali Blvd. The event is free and open to the public.
An urban heat island is a city or metropolitan area that’s significantly warmer than its surrounding rural areas, due to human activities. It’s common in cities across the nation — but it’s advancing in Louisville at one of the fastest rates in the country. In the parts of Louisville that feel the urban heat island effect the most, the temperature may be 10 degrees higher than in other parts of the city. To reduce the urban heat island effect, Louisvillians from across the city will have to play a part. To learn more, attend this forum or visit the website: https://louisvilleky.gov/node/60991
