UCHM is excited to share our selection of five destinations for the 15th Annual United Crescent Hill Ministries Home Tour.
ZORN AVENUE
Come see where winning jockey of the 2015 Kentucky Derby spent part of his Derby night! This newly remodeled (as of mid-May!) 3,000 square-foot condo is eclectic and whimsical. Local Frankfort Avenue business owner Margaret Schneider adds her stylish flair to every corner, from her updated kitchen to artistic garden, previously featured on the Crescent Hill Garden Tour. (Swing by Margaret’s Consignment later for some shopping!)
FRANKFORT AVENUE
This three-story Victorian home built in 1900 boasts a unique contemporary flair. Originally a duplex, the home features two kitchens (a foodie’s delight!) and a gracious upstairs deck overlooking the lovely gardens. Plus, enjoy several paintings by local artist David Schuster. The beautifully landscaped outdoor spaces lend themselves perfectly to welcome family and friends, nestled right in the heart of Frankfort Avenue.
FRANCK AVENUE
Built in 1900, this surprising shotgun home with vaulted ceilings offers a unique history. From 2004-2012, it served as a music studio / venue named The Quilt Box, graced by performers including Harry Pickens, Ben Solee, and Tin Can Buddah. The former homeowners were married by Pulitzer Prize winner Frederick Buechner. “It seems this little house is haunted with the intermingling of music, spirituality, and joined by the joy of jazz,” says current homeowner.
FRANKLIN SCHOOL APARTMENTS
A Clifton neighborhood landmark, the 1892 Franklin School was transformed by River City Housing into 12 apartments for senior citizens. Following historic preservation guidelines guaranteed keeping the schoolhouse’s original charm, while creating comfortable, energy-efficient, attractive and secure senior living spaces. The result is one of the most unique apartment facilities in the area. Near the corner of State Street and Frankfort Ave, across from the Kentucky School for the Blind, the apartments adjoin UCHM.
COPPER & KINGS AMERICAN BRANDY
This environmentally-responsible Butchertown distillery uses traditional copper pot-distillation to forge untraditional craft-distilled, natural, Pure Pot-still brandies. The copper pot-stills were locally manufactured by Vendome Copper, also Butchertown neighbors. From 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, Home Tour guests can take this 45-min tour of the distillery, grounds, and skydeck for ½ price (only $5) when you show your Home Tour ticket! Craft tonic, cola, and ginger beer will also be available for ½ price ($1) for Home Tour guests.
Home Tour Tickets are $25 each (single ticket) or $20 each (when purchasing two or more). Tickets will be sold for $25 the day of the event. Advance tickets will be available online (link coming soon), at UCHM (150 S. State Street), at Margaret’s Consignments & Collectibles (2700 Frankfort Ave. / 896-4706) and Carmichael’s Bookstore (2720 Frankfort Ave. / 896-6950 or 1295 Bardstown Road / 456-6950) and at UCHM member churches.
Proceeds from the 15th Annual Home Tour benefit the Youth, Seniors, and Emergency Assistance programs provided by UCHM. Celebrating over 40 years of outreach, UCHM continues to provide services for residents of the Crescent Hill, Clifton, Clifton Heights, and Butchertown neighborhoods. As one of our main fundraisers, your participation in this tour is appreciated in helping us to continue these services to our community.
Invite a friend, and enjoy a day of touring together—we hope to see you on June 13th!
