"Mustang"
Directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven
France’s entry for the Best Foreign Film Oscar, Mustang is a gripping tale of rebellion set in a rural seaside village in Northern Turkey. When five free-spirited teenage sisters frolic in the ocean with their male friends after school, the town is scandalized. The highly religious community chides the family and the girls are removed from school, locked down, and prepared for quick marriages once their chastity has been proven.
"Theeb"
Directed by Naji Abu Nowar
A young Bedouin boy named Theeb (“Wolf”) and his brother Hussein venture on a treacherous journey across the Arabian desert in 1916, encountering mercenaries, revolutionaries, and raiders as they try to survive and live up to the names their father gave them. When their journey is interrupted by a British officer and his guide who need assistance traversing the difficult terrain, their trip becomes more perilous.
