Nashville singer/songwriter and Louisville native Sam Varga will return home for a show to celebrate the release of his debut album. The Sam Varga Hometown Release Show, featuring special guests Matt Eversole and Owen Stovall, will be held at Odeon Louisville, 1335 Story Avenue, on Friday, March 20th at 8:00pm. Tickets for the 21 and over show are $5 in advance or $7 at the door.
Sam recently spent time helping with relief efforts following the devastating tornado that killed at least 24 in Middle Tennessee and now he wants to give more to help the community rebuild, so he will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Nashville Recovery Efforts.
Coming up in the fast-paced punk scenes of his high school days and the Blues of Austin, TX, there is an edge and energy that makes his songs stand out. Sam’s sound and writing style is self-described as “someone like Jackson Browne who grew up listening to a lot of punk”. The Kentucky native now calls Nashville his home after planting some strong roots there in just two years. His first single “Sex & Whiskey” is a high energy road-trip anthem and his first dip into being a solo artist. His follow up single “Mayday” was met with great acclaim.
The debut EP “Light Me Up” from Sam Varga is the product of two blurry years of living and songwriting in Nashville. The album is a combustion of rock dynamics, Nashville song craft, and emo one-liners. A self-deprecating wit flows through the entire album as Sam addresses bouts of depression, failed relationships, and the beauty and truth in between. The EP kicks off with the single “Mayday”, an emo anthem infused with pedal steel, and includes more light hearted tracks like “Sex & Whiskey,” ensure every heart string gets plucked on the way down the album. “Light Me Up” represents the beginning of Sam’s journey, but pulls no punches as to who he is and what he’s capable of as a writer and artist.
The "Light Me Up" EP can be downloaded on any/all streaming services online beginning March 6th.
