As a result of extensive oral history interviews with quilters across Kentucky, Dr. Pearlie Johnson has gathered a small yet powerful group of quilters whose work is presented in her talk: Quilt Art: Examining the Narrative in Kentucky Quilts - presentation on the history and traditions of African American women quilters of Kentucky. Dr. Johnson’s work explores women’s history, storytelling, identity politics, and empowerment. Including quilts made by women of all cultural groups, Johnson’s presents her research aimed at examining cross-cultural parallels in technique and assemblage, as well as revealing unique designs.
